New: The Four Friends Practice Companion — deeper stories, practices, and a 30-Day Return Path. Explore it →
When everything feels like too much and you do not know where to begin. When the whole field looks poisoned.
Trickster says if you cannot fix the whole field, there is no point starting. It turns overwhelm into paralysis. It calls giving up "being realistic."
You do not have to change the whole field. You have to change one patch. One small area of your life where you can make a different choice today.
- Name one patch of grass — one small input, habit, or pattern you want to change.
- Make it small enough to actually do. (Not "stop all scrolling" — "no scrolling before noon.")
- Do that one thing today.
- Notice you did it. That is the practice.
- Tomorrow, do it again. Or pick a new patch.
Pick one patch of grass. Just one. Change what you do there today. Do not promise forever. Promise today.
If you cannot find one patch, the field may be too flooded. Start with Breath and Root. Come back to this when the weather eases.

Stay with the herd
Use the Whole Buffalo is still taking shape as a book, but the practices are already here for ordinary hard weather. No performance. Just something steady to return to when the mind starts making the weather worse.
