New: The Four Friends Practice Companion — deeper stories, practices, and a 30-Day Return Path. Explore it →
When your mind says everything would be fine if only one thing were different — and you cannot stop chasing that one thing.
Trickster loves "if only." If only I had more time. If only they understood. If only I were different. It puts your peace of mind on the other side of a condition that never quite arrives.
You do not have to wait for the if-only to land before you stand. You can meet this moment with what is here, not what is missing.
- Notice the "if only" in your mind. Name it.
- Ask: "If that arrived, would I actually be at peace? Or would a new if-only appear?"
- Be honest. Trickster rarely rests on arrival.
- Ask: "What can I do with what is here, right now?"
- Take one small step from here.
The next time you hear "if only" in your mind, ask: "Would I actually rest, or would I find a new if-only?"
Some if-onlys point to real needs. That is different from a story. If there is a real need, name it and make one plan. If it is a story, let it pass.
